Troubleshooting C-5
There are excessive
patterns (noise) in the
image.
The Scanner is being
operated outside its
ambient temperature
range. (Perhaps the
Scanner has been stored
or transported at
temperatures outside its
range.)
Allow the Scanner to return to its
operating range (refer to Appendix
J). Then recalibrate the Scanner by
turning off the computer, then the
Scanner. Turn on the Scanner then
the computer. Try again.
Colors not scanned
properly for images with
dominant color or for
computer generated
graphics.
“Auto Bal” is not set
properly.
Turn the “Auto Bal” setting on the
Driver window to off and try again.
Other image problems
occur.
The Scanner was
calibrated with film in
place, or without the
calibration mask, or with
the wrong configuration
of the calibration mask.
Shut down the computer and
Scanner; restart. (This will force a
calibration to occur.) Perform
calibration as described in Chapter
5 (Macintosh) or Chapter 9 (PC).
Light in the area of the
film holder is interfering
with Scanner operation.
Do not have a high level of direct
light around the film holder area of
the Scanner.
The scanner is not able to
focus.
The scanner was not set-
up properly during
calibration.
Turn off the computer and the
scanner for at least 15 seconds
before restarting your computer
system. Perform the calibration
steps again; be certain that only
the calibration mask (not film or
film holder) is in the scanner.
A scanned image is out
of focus (there is soft
focus).
The scanner is partially
focusing on the edge of
the film holder.
The film is warped or
not flat in the film
holder.
Drag the selection rectangle
around the sharpest portion of the
image (the area in best focus).
Click Focus. Click to deselect the
focus area. Rescan the image.
